Adult Faith Formation

“You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless till they rest in You.”
~St. Augustine~

What is Adult Faith Formation (AFF)?

We all have at least a high school education, and the great majority of us hold undergraduate and even graduate degrees is some specialized field. And, we’re no doubt continually brushing up and updating our knowledge in that field, as time progresses and more is discovered.

This is the purpose and explanation of AFF at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Some of us learned our faith through 8th grade, and then stopped. And perhaps some of us remember our childhood prayers, and still pray now as we did then. On the other hand, there might be some among us who have continued to grow in the faith through the years and have developed a solid, mature prayer life. Whether we fall in the first or latter category, or somewhere in between, the Lord is continually inviting us to a deeper relationship with Him. The role of AFF is to accompany adults currently in the Parish, as well as potential members of the Parish, on their journey to an ever-deepening union with God.

How is AFF Structured?

While there is a Director of Adult Faith Formation, the needs of the Parish necessitate also a vibrant and growing team of volunteers and facilitators. There are four general areas within AFF that accommodate volunteer assistance:

Evangelization (outreach to potential Parishioners): programs and initiatives that bring the message of God’s love to those who have not yet heard it.

RCIA: the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults accompanies, instructs and guides those who wish to become Catholic till they are received into the Church. It also instructs and guides adult Catholics who have not yet completed one or more of the Sacraments of Initiation (first Holy Eucharist and/or Confirmation).

RCIA “Grads”: an ongoing program of continuing instruction in both learning and living the Faith for those adults who have entered the Church through RCIA.

Current Parishioners: an array of programs and small groups to assist our Parishioners in their journey to an ever-deepening relationship with God.
